Fears from NCIS fans that someone from the team was heading off to do the spin-off were allayed when an entirely new team was introduced in the “Legend” episodes. There are, however, still rumors that Michael Weatherly, who plays Tony, might leave NCIS, and show runner Shane Brennan neither confirmed nor denied such speculation.
“That’s not correct … but that’s not wrong, either,” he tells TV Guide, letting out a laugh. “It’s one of those things that people are going to have to watch to figure out.” (Continued)
The NCIS sixth season finale “Aliyah” will air on May 19, and will feature Ziva’s Cote de Pablo homecoming to Israel with Gibbs Mark Harmon and the rest of the team. The return is not exactly a happy reunion with her father, the enigmatic and powerful head of Mossad. Tensions will reportedly rise, and Gibbs will be forced to make a decision that “sends shockwaves through NCIS.”
Could the “shockwaves” include Weatherly bidding farewell to the CBS procedural? Brennan revealed, also to TV Guide, that he plans to top last year’s finale with the introduction of a “trouble-making newcomer” and something about the future of Tiva.
“We filmed a secret ending, and those pages were only in one copy of the script. People will see the finale and say, “I know what’s going to happen next in the first episode back.” Wrong. You don’t know what’s going to happen. People will go, “Am I really seeing that? What just happened?” It really is exciting. I promised that with [the Season 5 finale] “Judgment Day,” and I think we delivered. It is very much in that vein.”
Brennan, however, assures the Tiva fans that it will be a good one. “The fans are going to love them.”
