Weatherly On ‘NCIS’ Future: I Want To Be ‘Hot Lips’ Hoolihan

Michael Weatherly continues to be “very optimistic” that he will sign a new deal with CBS’ ‘NCIS‘ – and doesn’t take for granted for a second his status with TV’s most-watched drama series.

When Fancast posited that the occasional Jimmy-centric episode and the increased presence of Rena Sofer’s M. Allison Hart could be the ‘NCIS’ brass’ way of saying, “Don’t get too cocky at the negotiating table, because we have other chess pieces to play with,” Weatherly had to agree: “Absolutely, and I think they should feel that way.”

To illustrate the point, Weatherly said, “My dad went to Princeton with a guy named Wayne Rogers – Trapper John on ‘M*A*S*H.’ I don’t know what happened there, but suddenly there was B.J. Hunnicutt. And there was Frank Burns, then all of a sudden there was Charles Winchester III. There was McClean Stevenson, then all of a sudden there was Harry Morgan. But you know what, there was always Radar.”

CBS Finishes 2009-10 Season as Most-Watched Network!

For the seventh time in the last eight years, CBS won the 2009-2010 television season in viewers. It averaged 11.77 million for the season, which ended May 26, and had seven of the 10 most watched shows this year, including NCIS, The Mentalist, NCIS: Los Angeles, Criminal Minds, The Good Wife, and CSI: Miami. Fox was the second-most watched network with 9.98 million, followed by ABC (8.54 million), NBC (8.21 million), and the CW (2.02 million). 

Illini 4000 for Cancer — Bicyclists Riding for Cancer Research

While traveling today I met a group of bicycle enthusiasts participating in the Illini 4000 for Cancer cross-country bike ride. Normally I keep this website on the topic of 'NCIS' but since I enjoy bicycling and these bicyclists are putting in a lot of effort toward raising awareness and support for cancer research, I'd like to provide a little shout-out for their cause.

This summer, the fourth Illini 4000 Ride for Cancer Research aims to raise $100,000 for the American Cancer Society and family support programs by sending a team of 25 college students on a 4000-mile coast-to-coast bicycle journey. The Illini 4000 is a Registered Student Organization of the University of Illinois and over the past three years, has raised over $180,000 for cancer research and social support programs.

The photo (left) was taken today at noon as the group took a short lunch break in Greencastle Indiana, near the DePauw University campus. Their next stop is Rockville Indiana as they travel from NYC to San Francisco. Three down, two to go.

The NCIS contract renegotiation saga inched closer to resolution this evening with the news that Pauley Perrette (Abby) has inked a new multi-year deal to remain with the show.

Of the five NCIS cast members in limbo, Perrette, Rocky Carroll, and David McCallum have also reached new deals to return. Still at the negotiating table: Michael Weatherly and Sean Murray. A well-placed source, however, assures me that both are close re-signing.

NCIS Contracts: Pauley Perrette Unsure About Season 8 Job

Pauley Perrette has admitted that she does not know if she will return to NCIS.

Last month, it emerged that Perrette is among the cast members seeking a pay rise for the next season.

Speaking to Zap2It, she explained: "It's just weird after seven years, that after last Thursday, we don't have jobs."

It's definitely time for Anthony DiNozzo to "Grow Up" a bit. Michael Weatherly is an excellent actor and it's about time the writers added some depth to his character. 

While newer viewers might enjoy "DiNozzo" as comedy relief, most true NCIS fans, and the bulk of the audience, are seeing a talented actor dumbed down and underdeveloped.      (Photo: DiNozzo posing for Abby "Requiem")
